Summercon is not really designed as a media event, which is evident by our utter lack of a press kit, limited ability to conduct interviews, and propensity to throw shoes at speakers who fail to entertain us. That said, I really like talking to members of the media about what they do, since I consider journalism to be a means of hacking the public consciousness.
So in an effort to encourage members of the media to show up for Summercon, if you happen to be an accredited member of the media, I will buy you a drink in exchange for your business card. You don't need to file a story; hell, you don't even need to talk to me (though I'd love to chat; off the record, of course). Just drop by, show me your press credentials, give me a business card, and collect your free drink.
I'm a big believer in the First Amendment (in my book, it's second only to the 21st Amendment). With the advent of interblags, aren't we all journalists? For the sake of this offer, the answer is "no." To take advantage of my generosity, you need to have legitimate (looking) press credentials. So if you only write the blotter for your homeowners association newsletter, you probably won't get free booze from me. There's gotta be a line somewhere. Thanks, and I look forward to seeing you.
